Chinese automaker BYD is set to unveil a new electric SUV at the upcoming Shanghai Auto Show, as teased in a shadowy image posted on the company’s social media channels. The as-yet-unnamed SUV will be part of the Dynasty series and feature a fully electric powertrain. The model is expected to compete in the growing electric SUV market and may offer some stiff competition to other established players in the segment.
The single shot showcases the EV’s rear end that boasts a sleek coupe-SUV design. The similarities to the Porsche Cayenne Coupe are immediately apparent, with the full-width LED taillights, pronounced shoulders, and heavily inclined rear glass, all of which suggest that the Chinese automaker drew at least some inspiration from the German model. Of course, this is not the first Chinese model that resembles the Cayenne, but as far as we can tell, it could be the closest interpretation yet.

Still, the upcoming BYD electric SUV has some distinctive features that set it apart from the Porsche Cayenne Coupe. These include a double rear spoiler emerging from the roof, two vertical bars serving as the third brake light, and mirror-replacing cameras.
BYD’s Dynasty series is named after, well you guessed it, Chinese dynasties, which will also be the case with the new SUV. Other models from the same range include the Han sedan, as well as the Tang and Yuan SUVs.
Unfortunately, BYD has not released any details about the new product, which is described as a fully electric ‘B-Class SUV’. However, we expect it to utilize BYD’s e-platform 3.0, which is used by many other zero-emission models from the Chinese automaker.
The new EV will be officially unveiled on April 18, and probably arrive in the Chinese market later in 2023. BYD’s stand at the Shanghai Auto Show will also include the U8 off-roader and U9 supercar from the new brand YangWang, featuring quad electric motors.
