A number of images have emerged of the new BYD Song Plus EV and while its name hasn’t changed, a series of comprehensive modifications have been made to it, making it appear much more modern and more complimentary of other BYD models.

These photos were first published by China’s trusty Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) and show that the car manufacturer left no stone unturned in overhauling the exterior design of the SUV. These changes start at the front end where the Song Plus EV has been outfitted with distinctive new headlights similar in shape to those of the BYD Seal sedan. The front end also looks much more dynamic thanks to the presence of revised air intakes and a new split lower grille area.

BYD has continued the changes to the rear, fitting new taillights connected by an LED light bar while also equipping it with a new bumper and diffuser. It will be offered with 18-, 19-, and 20-inch wheel options. Car News China notes that while the SUV’s wheelbase remains unchanged at 2,765 mm (108.8 inches), it is now 80 mm (3.1 inches) longer at 4,785 mm (188.3 inches), is 1,890 mm (74.4 inches) wide, and sits 20 mm (0.7 inches) lower at 1,660 mm (65.3 inches) high.

BYD’s New Song Plus EV Surfaces Early In China

While the MIIT published images of the new SUV, certain technical specifications about it remain unknown. From what we do know, it is underpinned by the carmaker’s E-Platform 3.0 and will use the brand’s innovative Blade-style batteries. Driving the entry-level model will be an electric motor with 204 hp and 228 lb-ft (310 Nm) while the flagship version will get an electric motor rated at 218 hp.

Images showing the interior of the new BYD Song Plus EV have not yet surfaced but given the significant changes made to the exterior, we think it’s safe to say that the cabin will also receive a number of upgrades.
