Ford is claiming to be the “most American of all car companies” as the automaker built more than 1.8 million vehicles in the United States last year. That’s 130,000 more than the second place automaker, which Ford declined to mention by name.
Nearly 80% of Ford vehicles sold in the United States are built in the country, and the company is also America’s top auto exporter. Last year, the automaker exported 260,000 vehicles built in the United States including the Mustang, Explorer, and F-150. That’s 65,000 more than the closest competitor and Ford said approximately one out of every seven vehicles made in the United States is exported.
Considering that Ford builds the most vehicles in the United States, it shouldn’t be surprising to learn they also employ the most hourly manufacturing workers. There’s approximately 57,000 of them, although Ford and its partners aim to add more than 18,000 new manufacturing jobs over the course of the next three years.
