It’s not every day that a famous movie car comes up for sale but that’s exactly what we have here. Built by Eddie Paul for Universal Studios specifically for The Fast and the Furious film, this 1993 Mazda RX-7 is one of the franchise’s most famous.

The FD generation of the RX-7 is already a hot commodity. It’s often described as one of the prettiest cars of its kind. No doubt, that exotic styling lent to its use in the original Fast and Furious movie. In fact, this is one of five RX-7s used during the filming of that film.

It served as Vin Diesel’s character Dominic Toretto’s car. Its livery looks different because this same car was then reused for the second film and driven by Amaury Nolasco’s character Orange Julius. The winning bidder will end up with documentation proving its history. Of course, they’ll also get all that comes with a street-racing-ready Japanese hero car short of actual NOS.

That includes Sparco seats, a Versus body kit, a J-Spec hood, Cat 2 fog lights, and Motegi Ro_Ja 18-inch wheels. Interestingly, the drivetrain itself is completely stock. That includes a 13B 1.3-liter rotary engine that’s rated at 255 hp according to the listing. However much power it makes gets to do so with a Flamethrower exhaust.

The auction took place during Mecum’s 36th original spring classic at the Indiana State Fairgrounds. This particular car was estimated to bring in somewhere between $175,000 and $250,000 but currently, we don’t know if it found a new owner.

That’s a big chunk of change but this Mazda movie car looks like it’s in a lot better shape than many others that we’ve seen. It might not have NOS but it also isn’t full of plush bath mats as interior upholstery either.
