Like all iterations of the Ford Mustang to come before it, the new seventh-generation model will spawn a host of different variants catering to all kinds of different buyers. It’s not just the typical Shelby variants that are around the corner either as Ford is apparently in the midst of developing a safari-style Mustang wearing the Raptor nameplate.
A wild report from Car and Driver claims that Ford is looking to ‘Raptorize’ as many of its models as possible. Importantly, the report fails to mention any sources so we suggest taking the following information with a pinch of salt. If the claims are true, it would seem as though Ford is looking to follow in the footsteps of Lamborghini and Porsche who recently launched the Huracan Sterrato and 911 Dakar.
It is claimed that Ford will equip the Mustang Raptor with its naturally-aspirated 5.0-liter V8 that will be mated exclusively to a 10-speed automatic transmission. To ensure that the car feels just at home on gravel as it does on paved surfaces, it will allegedly rock an all-wheel drive system and an electronically controlled center differential.

Ford’s engineers will also work extensively on the pony car’s suspension. It could be equipped with Fox Live Valve dampers and lengthened springs to boost the ride height by 2.0-inches. Furthermore, Car and Driver asserts that the car will come standard with a host of bash plates and all-terrain tires.
As if the idea of a Ford Mustang Raptor wasn’t enough for you to start questioning reality, it has also been claimed that the car manufacturer will build a Raptor R version with a 5.2-liter supercharged V8 with over 700 hp.
If all of this pans out to be true, then tempted buyers should start saving up as the car won’t be cheap. In fact, it could start at around $90,000, a premium of roughly $33,000 over the Dark Horse and more than $10,000 pricier than the previous-generation Mustang Shelby GT500.
