A lot has been written about Jaguar’s new strategy. With the all-electric XJ canned at the eleventh hour to take stock of where Jaguar should be in today’s automotive landscape, many have asked what’s next for the famed British brand. But Jaguar Land Rover’s (JRL) new boss, Adrian Mardell, has now confirmed some early details of the first all-new up-market Jaguar.

As depicted by our purely speculative at this stage, independent renderings, the model will be a four-door GT, and yes, it’s going to be all-electric. In addition to the as-yet-unnamed GT, Jaguar will also offer two more EVs based on the JEA platform, although it won’t confirm any details on those just yet.

The first of the new-age Jaguars, the fruit of the ambitious Reimagine program, will have a range of up to 430 miles (700 km), with deliveries starting in 2025. It will sit on an all-new dedicated architecture, dubbed JEA (Jaguar Electric Architecture), and start at £100,000 (equivalent to around $125,000 at current exchange rates).

The news answers many questions we’ve had about Jaguar’s future. We now know that the company has opted to build its own electric platform from the ground up rather than outsourcing development or adapting another manufacturer’s underpinnings. We also know that, despite aspersions of positioning the brand as a Bentley rival, the first Jaguar won’t be competing with the winged B on price right out of the gate — Bentley’s own four-door GT, the Flying Spur, starts at almost double that of the Jaguar.

Speaking to Top Gear, Jaguar CFO Lennard Hoornik claims that the new GT will be the most powerful Jaguar ever, although specs are yet to be confirmed. Meanwhile, the battery cells won’t exactly be in-house but will come from parent company Tata’s European gigafactory, which is still in the early stages of development.

The news of the new GT was announced along with the investment of £15 billion ($18.6 billion at current exchange rates) in JLR’s industrial footprint, vehicle programs, autonomous, AI, and digital technologies, and people skills. Also confirmed was the pure-electric Range Rover, which will be open for orders later this year, ahead of a 2025 launch date.
