Soon after Finale Speed based out of Yukon, Oklahoma unveiled its all-carbon fiber 1969 Chevrolet Camaro restomod, none other than Jay Leno has had the opportunity to take a close look at it while also driving it out on the open road. Leno describes the build as “incredible” and is left really impressed with what the company has created.

Immediately making the Camaro stand out from a regular 1969 example are the new lightweight panels made from prepreg carbon fiber that’s been cured in an autoclave and helps to cut down weight significantly while also looking seriously cool. Of course, there’s much more to the restomod than some special bodywork.

Finale Speed ditched the donor car’s original engine and replaced it with one of GM’s LT4 6.2-liter supercharged V8 crate motors that pumps out 650 hp. This engine also sports a Wegner pulley system, VaporWorx fuel pump, and an 18-gallon fuel cell. It is coupled to a Magnum six-speed manual transmission driving the rear wheels through a Ford 9-inch rear end with a limited-slip differential. A unique exhaust system with stainless steel headers and MagnaFlow mufflers has also been fitted.

The list of other changes made to the Chevy is comprehensive. There are all-new SpeedTech suspension components, a set of 18-inch Forgeline three-piece wheels with Toyo Proxes R888R tires, Wilwood brakes at the front and rear, and a thoroughly updated interior.

While touring the car, Leno spoke with the owner of Finale Speed, Chris Jacobs and took it for a drive. He is immediately surprised and impressed that it isn’t too loud. He is also very fond of the transmission, comparing it to a rifle bolt.
