It appears one isn’t the loneliest number after all as MINI has been caught benchmarking the 2024 Countryman against the Smart #1.

While the Countryman is dressed in an eye-catching pastel disguise, it’s not doing the model any good as the crossover was spied undisguised during a photo shoot earlier this month. Those images revealed the crossover will sport an edgier front fascia with squared off headlights that feature prominent daytime running units. They’re joined by a larger grille and a faux skid plate.

Some of the biggest changes occur further back as the Countryman adopts streamlined bodywork that appears far more modern. Other highlights include flush-mounted door handles, gloss black pillars, and a contrasting roof that matches the mirror caps. They’re joined by plastic body cladding, pronounced fenders, and vertical taillights that feature a Union Jack motif.

MINI teased the crossover earlier this month and confirmed the model will grow 5.1 inches (130 mm) to measure 174.4 inches (4,429 mm) in length. The crossover will also be approximately 2.4 inches (60 mm) taller and the company says this will result in “even more space and comfort” for occupants.

More importantly, the model will be offered with two electric powertrains. The entry-level Countryman E will have 188 hp (140 kW / 190 PS), while the Countryman SE ALL4 will have a dual-motor all-wheel drive system developing a combined output of up to 308 hp (230 kW / 313 PS).

Motivation will be provided by a 64.7 kWh battery pack and this will deliver a WLTP range of around 280 miles (450 km). MINI says that will be enough for drivers to be comfortable in city centers as well as in the countryside.

The redesigned Countryman will go into production in November and be built in Leipzig, Germany.
