Radical Motorsport has revealed a host of upgrades to its entry-level SR1 that will make it even quicker.

The updated model is known as the Radical SR1 XXR and will be sold alongside XXR variants of the SR3 and SR10 under the British brand’s new XXR banner. Changes made to the SR1 start on the aerodynamic front where Radical has fitted a prototype-inspired shark fin as standard.

A new engine has also been installed. This engine takes the form of a 1.34-liter liquid-cooled four-cylinder developed and built in-house by Radical Performance Engines. The recommended engine refresh intervals have been extended by 25% with this new engine. Additionally, the warm-up time has been reduced and various thermal management upgrades have been made. Radical has also been able to increase oil change intervals from six to ten hours and has created a new drive-by-wire induction system for the car.

Radical Motorsport Unleashes New SR1 XXR Entry-Level Racer

Elsewhere, Radical has fitted external gear position sensors on the gearbox and has also revised the design of the scavenge pump for the oiling system. The mass of the engine’s connecting rods, crankshaft pins, and ignition system have also been reduced and promises to improve engine response and drivability.

“Although the entry-level racer, the SR1 XXR offers an outstanding package with unparalleled performance for the money, that will get you on the grid in a professionally administered race series,” Radical Motorsport’s head of research and development James Pinkerton said. “SR1 and SR3 models currently make up the majority of grids in the 12 Radical Cup championships around the world, with over 200 SR1s sold to date. Racers with the SR1 XXR will still be eligible to race in the PRO SR1 classes of Radical Cup championships around the world, too.”

The new Radical SR1 XXR is already available to order through the company’s global dealer network which operates in more than 20 countries. Production will start in the middle of this year but pricing details aren’t yet known.
