If there’s one thing the internet has taught us, it’s that Mustang owners love to put on a show. And Ford is leaning into that with its latest feature, which revs the 2024 Mustang’s engine remotely.
Now, for the first time, Ford is showing just how that will work. Gone are the days when you had to schlep all the way over to your car and get in it in order to annoy your neighbors. Now you can do all of that from the comfort of your home, with the key fob.
In a video, Ford shows how the 2024 Mustang can be started using the fob, then revved up to 2,000 RPM, which initiates the remote rev function. In the final step, the engine revs first to 3,000, then to 4,000, and finally to 5,000 RPM, finishing in a sustained crescendo of V8 sound.

The modes are activated with a range of button presses on the key fob, alternating between the lock button, to the unlock button, to the remote start button. You may want to practice before showing the feature off to your friends, because it seems like it’s pretty easy to get it wrong.
Although the Mustang featured in the video is the new, 500 hp (372 kW/507 PS), V8-powered Dark Horse model, remote rev is actually available with both the V8 and the EcoBoost engine, as long as they have the optional active exhaust installed.
Unfortunately, the feature is only available with the automatic transmission, meaning that if you choose to change your own gears, you’ll also have to be willing to manually rev your engine.
