Update: With only one day remaining until the official reveal, Subaru’s social media teaser campaign continues with one last photo that offers a cropped view of the front end of the upcoming Wilderness edition, featuring a plastic cladded bumper and grille.
The New York Auto Show kicks off on April 5th and Subaru will be using the event to unveil a new Wilderness variant.
While the vehicle was originally teased last week, the automaker has dropped a new image and it’s a bit more revealing. In particular, we can see the upcoming model will feature a black plastic bumper with “SUBARU” debossing. It’s joined by contrasting yellow accents and circular parking sensors.
While it’s not exactly clear which model is being shown, Subaru is expected to introduce a rugged Crosstrek Wilderness. That remains to be seen, but we’ll be live from the show and the company hinted the mystery model will have a “new level of untamed Subaru capability.” The automaker went on to promise “off-road upgrades, trail-climbing power, and adventure-ready technology.”

If the Outback Wilderness is any indication, we can expect a rugged body kit, all-terrain tires, and an off-road focused suspension that features unique springs and shock absorbers. This gives the wagon nearly an inch (25 mm) of additional ground clearance.
Besides off-road goodies, a possible Crosstrek Wilderness could have a 2.5-liter Boxer engine developing 182 hp (136 kW / 185 PS) and 178 lb-ft (241 Nm) of torque. It would undoubtedly be connected to a continuously variable transmission and a symmetrical all-wheel drive system.
