The 2023 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 isn’t just fitted with one of the most intoxicating engines of any current production car but it is also quite the performer on a racetrack, as evidenced by this recent test of it at Germany’s Hockenheimring.
This test was conducted by Sport Auto and Uwe Sener was the man tasked with the job of setting a hot lap in the Corvette Z06. As this video shows, he didn’t hold back in pushing the new supercar to its absolute limits and ended up setting a best lap time of 1:49.1.
How does this compare to other sports cars and supercars tested by Sport Auto around the Formula 1 track? Well, it is behind the 1:45.5 of the McLaren 720S, the 1:45.8 of the Porsche 911 992 GT3, and the 1:47.3 of the Lamborghini Aventador SVJ. It is also a touch slower than the Huracan STO with its best lap of 1:48.60 and just 0.1 of a second away from the 1:49 of the Huracan Evo.

It’s worth pointing out that the Corvette Z06 used in the test was equipped with the Z07 Performance Package but it was a European-spec model. Due to the Old Continent’s more stringent emissions regulations, Chevy’s engineers have to equip all Z06 models bound for Europe with a gas particulate filter and a modified exhaust, reducing power of the North American model from 670 hp and 460 lb-ft (624 Nm) of torque down to 636 hp and 439 lb-ft (595 Nm). Had the model on test been a North American model, it would have gone a touch quicker, likely finishing ahead of the Huracan Evo.
As a reminder, the Corvette Z06 has the most powerful naturally-aspirated V8 of any production car ever and while headline figures of 670 hp and 460 lb-ft are impressive, dyno tests have suggested the car may actually have a little more than that.
