Despite still looking fresh, the current-gen Acura MDX has been out for two years already, meaning a mid-cycle facelift should be around the corner if the industry trend of 4 to 6-year life cycles is to be expected. Now, one of our readers has spotted what appears to be a test car for the facelifted MDX out on public roads.

The only camouflage on this prototype SUV is on the front end, leading us to believe the facelift will be on the milder side. There’s enough camo to the point where we can’t quite make out any significant changes to the front end. If we had to guess, the main graphics of the front end, such as the headlights and grille, will stay as they are, and if anything will change, it will be the less significant aspects such as the lower fascia.

Either way, the MDX is already a handsome SUV, and we have yet to see a facelift for this era of Acura’s design language (only facelifts into it), so we’re interested to see what the Japanese automaker could be cooking up. Perhaps they will tweak the styling to be more in line with the upcoming ZDX to achieve better harmony across their portfolio once the brand starts going electric.

In any case, given how mild of a change this is shaping up to be, it’s safe to expect that the current lineup of powertrains will carry over unchanged. That would mean a 3.5L naturally aspirated V6 making 290 hp (294 PS / 216 kW) and 267 lb-ft (362 Nm) of torque for all trims except the range-topping Type S, which features a turbocharged 3.0L V6 making 355 hp (360 PS / 265 kW) and 354 lb-ft (480 Nm) of torque.
