Volkswagen showcased the ID.7 Vizzion, the Chinese version of the new electric sedan, together with the ID.Next., a closely-related concept with several restyled components previewing a sister model for the Chinese market.
The VW ID.Next was covered with a stylish camouflage wrap which did little to hide its production-ready design. The model is clearly based on the ID.7 as it sports identical proportions while sharing a number of body panels including the doors. The biggest difference is the new face with the full-width LED bar slotting below the headlights and slimmer intakes on the unique front bumper.

The front fenders are also slightly reshaped, as with the rear quarter panels featuring more conventional D-pillars. At the back, we find different LED graphics for the taillights alongside a new rear bumper with faux intakes and a larger diffuser.
The interior is carried over from the ID.7, meaning that the ID.Next benefits from the same digital instrument cluster, head-up display, 15-inch free-standing infotainment touchscreen, and Smart Air Vents of the twin model.
The company didn’t reveal the specifications of the ID.Next concept. However, it is safe to assume that the EV will be offered with the same powertrain options as the ID.7. The latter will be offered single or dual electric motors and a selection between a 77 kWh or an 86 kWh battery pack offering up to 435 miles (700 km) of range.
So What’s The Deal With This ID.7 Clone?
Those familiar with the Chinese market know that foreign brands need to form partnerships with two different domestic automakers, resulting in closely-related and locally-produced models with slight variations in their design. This is also the case with Volkswagen which has joint ventures with both SAIC (manufactured of the ID.3 / ID.4 X / ID.6 X) and FAW (ID.4 Crozz / ID.6 Crozz).
This solves the mystery with the electric sedans, as SAIC Volkswagen will manufacture the production version of the ID.Next, and FAW Volkswagen will be responsible for the ID.7 Vizzion. It remains to be seen whether those names will be retained in the final production models coming in China as early as this fall. Competitors include the soon-to-be-facelifted Tesla Model 3, the Toyota bZ3, and a sea of similarly-sized four-door EVs by Chinese automakers.
