The long history of the automobile has seen dozens of iconic cars from just about every corner of the world. The car industry in Korea is only recently coming into its own golden age though. With that in mind, what Korean car of the past has aged the best?
Unlike most QOTDs, this one has a couple of caveats. Firstly, it can’t be one that’s too new. For the sake of clarity, we’ll just say that it’s got to be older than the 2016 model year. On the other end of the spectrum, we’ll say that it has to be at least a 1991 model year or newer.
That should effectively take away what would be some folks’ first answer, the Hyundai Pony. That car features classic styling from Italdesign, was the first Korean-developed automobile ever, and came in a number of desirable configurations. Even without it, there are some cool options to choose from that we think are worth arguing for.

First up is the Oullim Spirra. Often dubbed the first Korean supercar, this two-door mid-engine vehicle never ended up being a worldwide success but it was pretty quick. Some versions could go from 0-60 mph in under 4 seconds. It’ll always be an important car for the country and even today it looks pretty snazzy we think.
Next up we’ll call out the Hyundai Equus. Introduced just before the turn of the century, this luxury-focused sedan was the Genesis of the Genesis brand that we know today. When it came to America in the early 2010s, it made an impact. Today, it remains a dapper addition to just about any garage and serves as a reminder of how Hyundai got to where it is today.
Finally, is it possible that all of this comes down to the Stinger? The sports sedan never really made the gigantic sales impact or the dent in the sports sedan crowd that Kia likely hoped for. Nevertheless, it proved that a Korean automaker could make just such a car that had no issue going up against much more well-known rivals. And to be clear, we’re counting it because the concept came out years before 2016.
