MINI released the first pictures of the redesigned Cooper last month and now we’re getting a look at the family friendly variant.
Known as the Hardtop 4 Door and 5-Door Hatch, the prototype is heavily disguised but follows in the footsteps of the three-door model. As a result, it features an evolutionary front fascia with a large grille and circular headlights. We can also see a front splitter and a sporty front bumper with sizable air intakes.
The déjà vu design continues further back, but we can see streamlined bodywork and a pronounced shoulder line. They’re joined by a chunky B-pillar and familiar cladding. Interestingly, the five-door variant appears to have traditional door handles instead of the minimalist ones found on the Cooper EV.

Out back, there’s a distinctive rear spoiler that echoes the one found on JCW variants. We can also see new taillights and what appears to be a cutout for a center-mounted exhaust.
Under the hood, we can expect to find familiar engine options. The current 1.5-liter three-cylinder produces 134 hp (100 kW / 136 PS) and 162 lb-ft (219 Nm) of torque, while the 2.0-liter four-cylinder develops 189 hp (141 kW / 192 PS) and 206 lb-ft (279 Nm) of torque. While the three-door model will be offered with an electric powertrain, one isn’t expected for the five-door hatch as the Aceman will effectively fill that role.
