Soon after the all-electric BMW i5 was presented to the world, Electrify America has confirmed that first-time owners will be provided with two years of complimentary 30-minute charging sessions.

Owners will be able to make use of its large network of 150 kW and 350 kW chargers throughout North America. When shoppers pick up the keys to their new i5, they will simply need to enroll in the charging program through the My BMW app. This app will also help them to navigate to nearby Electrify America charging stations and verify charger availability.

“As we continue expanding our electric offerings, access to charging infrastructure is as important as having a comfortable yet dynamic ride,” BMW of North America president and chief executive Sebastian Mackensen said. “We are grateful to Electrify America for working with us and sharing in our mission to help make the future of transportation more sustainable.”

This isn’t the first time Electrify America and BMW of North America have worked together as first-time owners of the i4, iX, and i7 also receive free charging. This benefit isn’t just exclusive to BMW owners either. In March, Hyundai confirmed that first-time owners of the new Ioniq 6 will receive two years of unlimited 30-minute charging sessions at Electrify America stations.

The new electric i5 has launched alongside the latest-generation ICE-powered 5-Series. In the United States, the i5 is initially launching in eDrive40 and M60 xDrive guises, priced from $67,795 and $85,095 respectively including a $995 destination fee. The entry-level model delivers a total of 335 hp and 295 lb-ft (400 Nm) of torque while the i5 M60 xDrive is good for a total of 590 hp and 586 lb-ft (795 Nm). Both versions feature the same 84.3 kWh battery pack.

In terms of range, the eDrive40 can travel 295 miles (475 km) on a charge with the 19-inch wheels while the range of the M60 xDrive is a claimed 256 miles (412 km).
