Less than a year after the debut of the Citroen e-C4 X, the automaker launched a new version of the electric fastback featuring a more powerful and efficient powertrain, alongside the closely-related e-C4. The Frech EVs are now more in line with other Stellantis offerings in terms of power output and range, although the older versions remain available as more affordable alternatives.
The new versions of the e-C4 and e-C4 X benefit from a stronger electric motor, producing 154 hp (115 kW / 156 PS) and 260 Nm (191.8 lb-ft) of torque, an increase of 20 hp (15 kW / 20 PS) compared to the one found in the entry-level trims. The new electric motor is already fitted on many other Stellantis models based on the same e-CMP architecture, including the Peugeot E-208, the Opel Mokka-e, and the DS 3 Crossback E-Tense.

The Citroen EVs also gain the latest 54 kWh battery pack (up from 50 kWh), extending the driving range to between 415-420 km (258-261 miles) according to the WLTP cycle, around 17% more than the standard models. Despite the larger capacity, charging times are not increased. The e-C4 and e-C4 X come with a standard single-phase 7.4 kW charger, or an optional three-phase 11 kW charger while they are compatible with 100 kW rapid chargers.
There are no exterior or interior changes in the EVs with the upgraded powertrain so there is no way to tell them apart from the counterparts. Weirdly enough, Citroen didn’t even add a name suffix to differentiate the new variants.
The French automaker initially offers the more powerful EVs exclusively in the high-spec Shine trim, leaving the lesser Live, Feel, and Feel Pack trims for the existing e-C4 / e-C4 X. Citroen didn’t reveal pricing but it is safe to assume that the improved specs will go with a higher price tag.
