A Florida woman is in jail after allegedly drunkenly driving her Nissan SUV on the beach, past bystanders, and into the water. Police say she had a blood alcohol level nearly twice the legal limit. Thankfully, nobody ended up injured during the event but there’s no telling if the SUV will make a full recovery.
According to the police report, Sarah Ramsammy of Orlando is the woman charged with both reckless driving and DUI after the event which took place on May 27th. Video from the event at Smyrna Dunes Park shows the high notes of the interaction between police and Ramsammy. Right from the beginning the Nissan is beached like a whale having a bad day.
Witnesses in the video immediately tell police from the Volusia Sheriff’s Office that Ramsammy nearly struck some of them, including children, with the vehicle. “I was the driver, and they kinda stopped us, and they said that we almost hit a child,” Ramsammy told cops. “I didn’t think that we did, but that’s what they told us.”

Aerial footage shows the water encroaching on the vehicle as the driver and her passenger speak to police. The two women claim that they were simply trying to turn around when the crowd stopped them. At some point off-screen, police registered her BAC as .153, or nearly twice the legal limit in Florida of .08.
In addition to her more serious charges, the woman is facing a citation for failing to obey a traffic control device. It’s not the first time that we’ve seen someone near a body of water end up with a car lost to the sea. Last year, someone drove their Ford Bronco onto a sandbank only for the tide to rise too quickly to save the SUV.
Consider this one last reminder that partying is great but do it safely and responsibly. None of us want to end up beached or behind bars today or any other day.
