Genesis has been building the zero emissions Electrified GV70 at its Montgomery plant since February, but things are going to get cosier at the Alabama site when the brands’s 2024 lineup starts production.
The company has announced that combustion-powered GV70s will also be built at Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Alabama (HMMA) alongside their EV brothers from later this year. The gas GV70 is the brand’s most popular car in the U.S. market, so the move is great news for the factory.
Genesis invested over $300 million to get the site ready for ‘future growth’ including GV70 production. Upgrades include additional warehouse space plus changes to the stamping and weld shops enabling them to make the correct bodies. Let’s hope they’ve modded them to do something about the car’s weird rear side window. It might be Genesis’ best-selling vehicle, but the GV70 is no looker, at least not when viewed from a rear-three-quarter angle.

The interior, thankfully, is better resolved, though it helps if you like ovals. They’re everywhere, except on the top of the dash, where you’ll find a letterbox-format 14.5-inch infotainment screen. That’s joined by a handsome 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster with an optional 3D function.
The GV70 currently kicks off at $43,150, which buys you a 2.5-liter turbocharged four with 300 hp (304 PS) and 311 lb-ft (422 Nm). Above it in the range is a 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged V6 with 375 hp (380 PS) and 391 lb-ft (530 Nm) that starts at $55,250.
All-wheel drive is fitted to every GV70, including the entry-level four-cylinder Standard, which has 18-inch wheels, fake leather and heated front seats. Step up to Select for an additional $3,750 over the base car and you get an upgrade to 19s, cooled seats and a panoramic roof; Advanced ($8,650 more) brings leather, remote parking and surround-view cameras, and Sport Prestige (+$12,800) features 21-inch hoops, triple-zone climate and Genesis Digital Key.
GV70s with the 3.5 climb as high as $65,150 for the top-spec Sport Prestige, but even that costs less than the sole Electrified GV70, which will set you back $65,850.
