Given how iconic the Honda S2000 is, it is quite surprising that the car manufacturer never released a Type R variant of it. However, a company by the name of Evasive Motorsports recently took it upon itself to build an S2000 that would have been fitting of the Type R badge.

The car, dubbed the S2000R, was unveiled a couple of weeks ago and automotive photographer Larry Chen recently had the opportunity to take a look at it in person. For as compelling as it looks in photos and when reading the spec sheet, it is even more stunning on video and Chen spoke with Mike Chang about what has made the S2000R the car that it is.

Evasive Motorsports first started work on the S2000R by upgrading the bodywork, fitting it with the 20th-anniversary bumper that Honda launched back in 2020. In addition, the company added a carbon fiber splitter to this bumper and also flared the front wheel arches to give the car a square setup, meaning the wheels and tires are the same width at both the front and rear.

Extensive work has also been done beneath the skin of the car. The most significant upgrade relates to the engine. Rather than retaining the S2000’s iconic 2.0-liter naturally-aspirated four-cylinder that once made 240 hp and 153 lb-ft (207 Nm) of torque, Evasive replaced it with the K20C1 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder of the FK8 Civic Type R rocking a Mugen carbon fiber air intake.

Other modifications made to the car include a titanium exhaust, a Koyo Racing radiator, an OS Giken LSD, KW Clubsport coilovers, upgraded sway bars, and new chassis braces.

While Vasive Motorsports has only built a single example of its S2000R, it does intend on offering the upgrade package to customers. It has not yet finalized pricing but expects to do so in the coming months.
