What is arguably the most intriguing Mazda MX-5-based sports car on the market has just been updated with a new variant. We’re of course talking about the Grand Albaycin from Spanish coachbuilder Hurtan and the new version is known as the UAE Limited Edition.
In creating the special version of the Grand Albaycin, Hurtan has taken inspiration from Arabian cultures. For example, it features taracea ribbons on the doors as well a nameplate in the cabin with Arabic calligraphy. The subtle alterations made continue with a flag of the United Arab Emirates as well as braided double seams on the upholstery.
Hurtan intends on building 30 examples of the Grand Albaycin UAE Limited Edition but has not specified if each example will be configured the same way. The car pictured is painted in a nice shade of Metallic Blue and sits on a set of silver wheels with a retro spoke design.

The covers were first lifted on the MX-5-based model back in early 2021. It is built around the ND-generation MX-5 and takes obvious design inspiration from classic British sports cars. The unique design starts at the front end with a pair of circular headlights and running lights as well as a pronounced grille with vertical slats finished in chrome. Pontoon fenders are also featured at both the front and rear.
Pricing details haven’t been announced for the UAE Limited Edition model but we know the regular model starts at €59,000 (~$65,000) for the 1.5-liter model and think it’s safe to assume this version will cost a touch more. Like any 1.5-liter ND MX-5, the most affordable version of the Grand Albaycin produces 132 hp. Customers seeking a little more grunt can opt for Mazda’s available 2.0-liter naturally-aspirated four-cylinder rated at 184 hp.
