Kia’s all-new EV9 electric SUV has all the right ingredients to be a hit for the Korean car manufacturer. From its dramatic design to the innovative interior, impressive powertrain, and breadth of abilities, it proves that big electric SUVs can be fun and exciting all while being extremely practical.
Kia is particularly proud of the EV9’s heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems. One of the key features of the EV9 is that it features a dedicated heat pump that collects waste heat from the e-motors and Power Electronics (PE) system and uses it to warm the cabin. This reduces energy consumption and helps to boost range as less electricity is needed to heat the cabin.
Elsewhere, the Kia EV9 features two independent climate control systems that create dedicated zones for the driver, the front passenger, and the rear passengers. These two dedicated HVAC systems run a complex control algorithm to boost cabin comfort while also making power consumption more efficient regardless of temperature. Kia has also fitted ventilated and heated seats as standard in both the first and second rows of the EV9.
New developments have also been made to the air conditioning of the electric SUV. Kia says there is an after-blow system that minimizes condensation buildup on the evaporator. This system can determine if the AC has been used for an extended period of time and if it has, it will use the blower to dry the water that may have built up.

All of the EV9’s HVAC systems are operated through Kia’s latest climate control panel with a new and improved user interface that allows owners to see all climate settings with just one click.
“The all-new Kia EV9 proves customers don’t have to make sacrifices to be sustainable, group manager HVAC & PT Cooling at Hyundai Motor Europe Technical Center, Richard Peiler said in a press release. “With these high-tech features, the EV9 sets new standards in the e-SUV segment, delivering all the comfort and convenience of a modern SUV with none of the emissions at the tailpipe.”
