A month after the MG Cyberster debuted at the Shanghai Auto Show in China, the automaker brought a “pre-production design model” to its Marylebone headquarters in London, organizing a special presentation event prior to its market launch this summer.

This is the first time we see official photos of the MG Cyberster in the flesh, with the full-scale model looking quite attractive in this deep red shade. The sculpted bodywork measures 4,535 mm (178.5 inches) long, staying true to traditional roadster proportions with a long bonnet, large-diameter wheels, and a low-slung silhouette. The Cyberester also adds supercar-inspired elements into the mix, including the scissor doors and the integrated spoiler at the Kammback tail.

Luckily, the prototype was exhibited with the soft top down, revealing the futuristic two-seater cabin that features no less than four screens on the digital cockpit.

Besides the photo gallery, MG also published a short video of the electric roadster. Carl Gotham, MG’s Advanced Design Director, spoke about the creative process behind the Cyberester which brings the automaker back to its sportscar roots. The SAIC-owned era of MG has been largely focused on SUV offerings up to date, so having a two-seater roadster in the lineup is quite exciting for fans of the brand’s rich heritage.

MG has yet to detail the specifications of the new model but documents from China‘s MIIT suggest it will offer two powertrain options. The single-motor RWD model will produce 310 hp (231 kW / 314 PS), while the dual-motor AWD will make as much as 536 hp (400 kW / 544 PS), sourcing energy from a lithium-ion battery pack of unknown capacity and range.

The MG Cyberster will be available in the UK and European markets in the summer of 2024. The company will announce pricing at a later date, but calls it “the world’s first affordable EV roadster”. Autocar reports that UK pricing will start from around £55,000 ($69,166) for the single-motor RWD and from £65,000 ($81,742) for the dual-motor AWD. If those numbers are accurate, the MG Cyberester would be slightly more expensive than a high-spec ICE-powered BMW Z4, but almost half the price of a Mercedes SL.
