Mitsubishi announced the debut of a new compact SUV for the ASEAN markets, teasing its aggressive face and Yamaha audio system. The model is the production version of the XCF concept and will premiere on August 10 at the Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show.
Mitsubishi might offer rebadged Renault models in Europe including the new ASX (Renault Captur) and the upcoming Colt (Renault Clio) but is set to follow a different strategy for its core ASEAN region. The teased model has a unique design that appears to stay true to the concept that debuted in October 2022. More specifically, it retains the split LED headlights, the large grille, and the sculpted bonnet.

Equipment will include the new “Dynamic Sound Yamaha Premium” audio system with Coaxial 2-way speakers and Yamaha-branded tweeters for an “immersive sound experience”.
The company claims that the yet-unnamed model will combine SUV styling, practicality, and comfort, offering a “spacious cabin” with “versatile storage spaces”. It is also said to be capable of “handling rough surfaces” and “roads flooded by heavy rains” which is quite important for Asian buyers. Mitsubishi didn’t mention anything about the powertrain, but according to earlier announcements, it will come fitted with a non-electrified internal combustion engine as the ASEAN region hasn’t progressed as much as Europe in terms of hybrids and EVs.
We will learn more about the new compact SUV in the coming months as we move closer to its debut. Until then you can check out the previewing XFC Concept and imagine it with slightly toned-down features. The SUV will be one of the six new Mitsubishi production models coming before the end of 2023, and one of the 16 launches scheduled for the next five years.
