Hyundai is gearing up the teaser campaign for the performance-focused Ioniq 5 N ahead of its debut at the Goodwood Festival Of Speed in July. While the aggressive bodykit of the first fully electric N model remains hidden under the camouflage wrap, Hyundai let us listen to the fake engine noise of the electric model which also replicates the downshift sound of ICE-powered vehicles.
The second episode of the official Hyundai Ioniq 5 N teaser was filmed on the public roads of Seoul, Korea, and at the track where the EV was put through its paces.

Unlike other performance EVs, the virtual engine noise is not a direct copy of a combustion engine but has a unique tone. The pitch grows higher during acceleration, replicates the pops and bangs when the driver lifts their foot off the throttle and even makes downshift sounds when using the dedicated gearshift paddles. The latter are not connected to an actual gearbox, but represent the interface for the Virtual Grin Shift (VGS) which is like a dual-clutch automatic for EVs.
The Hyundai Ioniq 5 N will also feature a system called N Drift Optimizer allowing controlled drifting on the track with the help of the e-LSD on the rear axle and the N Torque Distribution system. Note that the E-GMP-based model will come fitted with dual electric motors producing close to 600 hp as hinted at by Hyundai N boss, Albert Biermann. Those will be combined with a version-specific suspension setup and stronger N-branded brakes making it the most track-capable Hyundai-branded production EV to date.
We expect to learn more about the abilities of the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N in the coming weeks as the automaker will most likely keep us busy with more teasers.
