Porsche is not the type of company to bask in the glory of its creations as it’s always developing new and improved versions of its cars. Currently, it is working on a mid-life facelift for the 911 GT3 and a host of new spy shots of the car have emerged during a recent round of testing at the Nurburgring and on the streets near the famed circuit.

One could argue that the current 992-generation 911 GT3 is just about as perfect as a sports car can get and it certainly doesn’t need a facelift. But, given that development is well underway for facelifted versions of all other 911 models, it only makes sense for the GT3 to also receive some updates.

Unlike some 911 GT3 prototypes that our spy photographers have recently snapped in the midst of testing, these latest testers are not rocking the same front bumper, grille, and lights of the current model. Instead, they have new parts hidden under camouflage. We can see that the front bumper has adopted a slightly new shape but some of the finer details are hard to see given its black finish and the fact that some elements, including the air intakes, appear to be blanked off.

The most obvious giveaway of these being prototypes is the black body cladding positioned across the rear. Evidently, Porsche is working on a new bumper and diffuser package for the 992.2 model and doesn’t want the world to see the changes it has made just yet. It also appears that some alterations have been made to the taillights and full-width LED light bar.

A host of changes will also be made to the cabin of the sports car. The most significant, and visible in one of the spy shots, will be the presence of a completely digital instrument cluster. The current car has digital dials but the central tachometer remains an analog unit. We suspect some Porsche enthusiasts won’t be impressed with this change.
