The Croatian EV experts at Rimac made a name for themselves with a product famous for going ludicrously quickly, the Nevera hypercar. And now they plan to do it all over again with another electric product that does precisely zero mph.
Rimac Energy is a new sub-brand from the people behind the Nevera and its mission is to dominate the market for Energy Storage Systems (ESS). The firm believes that storage systems – essentially giant batteries – are a crucial component in allowing the world to make full use of renewable power generation and to decarbonize the energy networks.
Rimac says that it has leveraged the same technical know-how it employs in its hypercars to build storage systems that reduce losses by up to 50 percent compared with existing systems and do it in a package that’s 40 percent smaller in footprint. It also claims that its hardware will have a superior cycle life and be price competitive in terms of purchase and installation.
But don’t go getting too excited about the idea that you might be able to put a Rimac in your garage for less than the $2.2 million cost of a Nevera. Unlike Genesis, Rimac Energy makes no mention of plans to enter the home storage system market and is instead focused on providing solutions for large-scale commercial and industrial applications.

The Rimac Energy team, headed by director, Wasim Sarwar, has quietly built up to 60 employees over the last 18 months, though the first projects to make use of the company’s ESS are still some way off. Rimac claims to have several potential customer programs on the table, one of which would involve providing battery storage to a renewable energy company’s solar and wind power plants. By 2025 Rimac Energy hopes to be pumping out storage systems for other customers from its facility on the outskirts of Zagreb, Croatia.
“There is an urgent need for clean energy infrastructure to support the integration of renewable energy sources into the grid by providing storage and balancing capabilities,” said Rimac Group founder and CEO Mate Rimac.
“Given our head start in EV technology and dedication to sustainability, this path feels like a seamless progression for us. Our team is truly excited about creating solutions that make clean energy more accessible, as we strive to decrease our dependence on fossil fuels and foster a greener future.”
