It has only been a few months since four-time Formula One World Champion Sebastian Vettel retired from the sport, but he has already announced that he is getting back behind the wheel. However, this time he’ll be driving his own F1 cars.
Vettel will once again participate in the Goodwood Festival of Speed, with a pair of vintage Formula One cars from his own private collection. They are the 1992 Williams FW14B, which was famously driven to a world championship by Nigel Mansell, and a 1993 McLaren MP4/8, which won five Grands Prix with Ayrton Senna at the wheel.
The classics will be driven up the Goodwood Hill, a course at which Vettel has previous experience. In 2012, he drove the Red Bull RB7 that earned him a world championship title up the famed course.

“It’s great to be coming back to Goodwood after all these years,” said Vettel. “I can’t wait to get behind the wheel of some of my most memorable cars which will be running on sustainable fuel over the weekend.”
At his behest, any vehicle that Vettel drives during the Goodwood Festival of Speed weekend will be powered by alternative fuels. The founder of the “Race Without Trace” campaign, the retired driver is a supporter of alternative fuels in motorsport.
Goodwood says that 20 percent of the vehicles running at the 2023 Festival of Speed will be powered by an alternative fuel, be it hydrogen, synthetic fuel, or electricity. The festival also plans to further expand Electric Avenue, its designated area for alternate fuel vehicles.
“I’m a passionate racer and it’s important to me that we continue to enjoy driving iconic racing cars today and in the future, but that we do so in a responsible way,” Vettel said.
