When the Tesla Model S Plaid was first released, one of the major criticisms was that it did not seem capable of handling its immense power. However, Tesla has now introduced a Track Package on its website that promises to improve the vehicle’s performance and match its power.
“Designed for the ultimate track experience, the Model S Plaid Track Package delivers high-speed stability, maximum cornering force and repeatable stopping power during high-performance driving while unlocking a top speed of 200 mph,” the automaker writes on its website.
The Track Package offered by Tesla for the Model S Plaid includes several upgrades such as aluminum forged wheels, high-performance tires, better brake fluid, and improved brakes. The braking system features one-piece forged calipers with high-performance brake pads, aimed at improving the vehicle’s handling and performance on the track.

The package also offers new carbon-silicon carbide brake discs that feature continuous-fiber technology and a unique 3D matrix, providing strength and heat dissipation. The ceramic friction layer covering the entire surface of the disc enhances durability by reducing dust, corrosion, and wear.
The front brake rotors measure 410 x 40 mm (16 x 1.5 inches), while the rear rotors measure 410 x 32 mm (16 x 1.2 inches). The calipers that clamp down on the front discs have six pistons, while the ones at the back have four.
The Track Package also comes with 20-inch Zero-G wheels, including center caps, tire nut valves, and lug nut covers, wrapped in Goodyear Supercar 3R tires (285/35RR20 in the front, 305/30R20 in the back), which feature the Plaid logo on their surface.
Finally, the package also comes with some modest software updates. These include better battery conditioning, including a cool-down program for after hot laps, reports Top Gear. This allows the EV to achieve its top speed (200 mph/322 km/h) more reliably, while some modified air suspension settings and more aggressive torque vectoring help it out in corners.
The Carbon Ceramic Brake Kit can be purchased separately, according to Tesla, but the large rotors will only fit behind the 20-inch Zero-G wheels and the 21-inch Arachnid wheels, not the 19-inch Tempest wheels. Furthermore, the Track Package is exclusively compatible with Model S Plaids produced in 2021 or later.
Customers can purchase the Track Package via the Tesla App starting in June 2023, with prices ranging from $15,000 to $20,000, although the website doesn’t provide details on what factors affect the cost. Owners can also have the parts shipped to their preferred Tesla service center, where installation is included with the purchase price.
