Police officers have to deal with drunk drivers and fake IDs on a regular basis, but one recent case in the Netherlands combining the two elements would have made even the most jaded cop raise an eyebrow. Well, it’s not every day that you arrest a former British prime minister.
The story starts in northern city of Groningen when Dutch police were called to investigate reports of a car that had crashed into a pole near the Emma Bridge. The damaged car was abandoned but police later located the driver standing on the bridge. The 35-year-old man from a small town called Zuidhorn, located to the west of Groningen, refused a breath test and was arrested and had his car searched.
But the police got a real surprise when they turned up an ID inside the car claiming to belong to former British PM, Boris Johnson. The driving license had a picture of the real Boris and the July 24, 2019 issue date matched the date that Johnson moved into Number 10 Downing street. But as if the fact that Johnson supposedly had a Ukrainian driving license wasn’t sketchy enough, the expiry date was on hand to blow any remaining credibility out of the water: December 12, 3000.

“Unfortunately for this person, we did not fall for his forgery,” said a spokesman for Groningen Police on the force’s Instagram account.
Police could not confirm where the fake ID was made – or whether the 35-year-old driver looked anything like Bojo – but those familiar with Ukraine say it’s easy to buy fake IDs in the country for novelty (and presumably other less innocent) purposes.
