VinFast has announced a partnership with Sony Pictures Entertainment (SPE) to launch an in-vehicle streaming service that will be available in the U.S. this summer.

The streaming service is known as RIDEVU and has been developed for vehicle infotainment systems by Sony. The Vietnamese car manufacturer has confirmed that it will equip newly-delivered vehicles with the system before they reach the hands of customers while those that are already on customer driveways will get an over-the-air update.

Sony’s RIDEVU system offers multiscreen integration for vehicle screens and personal devices. It supports up to six devices that can be used independently. The system supports Android, iOS, Android TV, Apple TV, and Linux and is powered by the Amazon Web Services cloud. Certain vehicles can also support up to 4K resolution. RIDEVU also includes timed content recommendations for shorter trips and has DTS audio.

“At SPE, we are committed to providing unparalleled entertainment experiences that seamlessly integrate with the latest in cutting-edge technology,” senior vice president for digital sales and distribution at Sony Pictures Entertainment, Pete Wood said. “With cars now equipped with the power and connectivity of modern computers, the potential for in-vehicle entertainment and services is virtually limitless. As we enter an era of electric and autonomous vehicles, SPE is excited to collaborate with automakers to develop new and innovative consumer services that will transform the entertainment landscape.”

VinFast customers will be able to buy or rent hundreds of films and series through the system, including the likes of Spider-Man: No Way Home, Bullet Train, Uncharted, and Venom: Let There Be Carnage.

Sony hasn’t announced what other car manufacturers will use the streaming platform but it will obviously be used by Afeela, the car manufacturer created by Sony and Honda.
