The story was updated with patent drawings of what appears to be the Volvo EX30.
Volvo has released a new teaser video for their upcoming small, fully electric SUV, the EX30, which provides a more revealing look at the vehicle. The company also confirmed that the EX30 will be officially unveiled on June 7th. In addition, patent images of the EV’s exterior design have surfaced online, providing a comprehensive view of the vehicle’s overall appearance.”
The smallest member of Volvo’s growing SUV range was first teased on November 2022, alongside the EX90 flagship. Predictably, it borrows a lot of styling cues from its bigger brother albeit looking chunkier, sportier, and more playful, in line with rival offerings.

Common features between the EX30 and the EX90 include the split taillights, the pixel-style headlights, and the overall surfacing. On the other hand, the compact footprint, the proportions, and the greenhouse of the EX30 look similar to the slightly larger XC40. The bodywork is more sculpted than your average Volvo, with the toned-up fenders being further emphasized by the shut lines of the clamshell bonnet.
The Volvo EX30 is expected to ride on a compact version of Geely’s modular SEA (Sustainable Experience Architecture) platform which already underpins similarly-sized SUVs including the Smart #1 and the Zeekr X. It will most likely offer a choice between single and dual electric motors, alongside battery packs of different capacities.
Earlier this year, Volvo CEO Jim Rowan spoke about the EX30 calling it a “really important” model for the brand. He said that it will be offered at a “really nice price point”, while being “very safe”, with a “decent range” and “high quality” at a “good size”. Volvo hopes that its new entry-level SUV will help them reach a younger audience, as it will focus on online sales and propose a new subscription-based ownership model with a three-month commitment.
The automaker said they will reveal “a lot more details” about the EX30 in the coming weeks, so we will be keeping an eye out for new teasers and updates. It was also announced that the Volvo EX30 will become available to pre-order in select markets from the day of its debut on June 7. Production will take place in China.
