A young man and woman in Brevard County, Florida learned first-hand the futility and dangers of trying to run and speed away from police, getting hit with a PIT maneuver along I-95.

Local media reports that the Florida Highway Patrol were tasked with performing a traffic stop of 21-year-old driver Adam Crosby and 30-year-old passenger Samantha Simpson on suspicion that they were involved in methamphetamine trafficking in the local area. Crosby and Simpson immediately fled from the attempted traffic stop and began to speed along I-95, weaving through traffic with the police in pursuit.

Police were determined not to let Crosby out of their sight in the Honda Accord that he was driving and received the go-ahead to perform a PIT maneuver. Dashcam footage from one of the police cars in pursuit of the pair shows that the Honda was hit from the left rear corner, immediately spinning around before it slammed into the grass median and hit a crash barrier, briefly lifting up onto two wheels.

Click Orlando reports that Crosby was questioned by police after the crash and said he refused to stop because he had just left prison and had too much to lose. He also refused medical transport. Both he and Simpson were arrested and booked at the Brevard County Jail.

The 21-year-old has been hit with charges of fleeing and eluding police, reckless driving, possessing a blank, forged or stolen ID, driving with a suspended license, using or possessing paraphernalia to transport drugs, and possession of a controlled substance without a prescription. Simpson was charged with two counts of violation of parole. She will go to trial on May 15 while Crosby will make his next court appearance on June 1.
