While Renault is gearing up for the reveal of the all-new fifth-generation Scenic sometime in 2024, a camouflaged prototype caught by our spy photographers on the public roads of southern Europe doing some hot weather testing. The new Scenic is set to adopt the E-Tech moniker, as it transforms from an ICE-powered minivan to a fully electric SUV.

The upcoming model was closely previewed by last year’s Scenic Vision concept, which was the first to introduce Renault’s evolved styling language created under the guidance of ex-Peugeot design boss Gilles Vidal. The styling of the camouflaged prototype appears to be slightly toned down for production, in areas like the thicker pillars, the larger LED headlights, and the conventional mirrors. Still, it retains the core features of the concept, including the proportions, the split headlights, the oversized alloy wheels, and the sharp surfacing of the tail.

2024 Renault Scenic’s Transformation From A Minivan To An Electric SUV Will Soon Be Complete

Inside, the 2024 Renault Scenic E-Tech is expected to adopt a fully digital Open R cockpit, similar to the ones used by the Megane E-Tech, Austral, Espace, and Rafale. Its electric nature will allow improved packaging compared to its ICE-powered predecessor which was discontinued in 2022. Furthermore, the spacious five-seater cabin will likely offer plenty of storage solutions as a nod to its minivan origins. Finally, as hinted at by the futuristic interior of the concept, there will be a focus on sustainable materials for the upholstery.

The previewing concept came with a sophisticated range-extender hydrogen fuel cell solution, but the production Scenic E-Tech will most likely be exclusively offered in fully electric form. The model is expected to ride on the latter’s CMF-EV architecture, coming in single-motor FWD or dual-motor AWD variants with a generously-sized battery. Note that the mechanically-related FWD-only Megane E-Tech goes up to 215 hp (160kW / 218 PS) with a 60 kWh battery, while the Nissan Ariya sibling goes up to 389 hp (290 kW / 394 PS) with a 90 kWh battery.

Renault hasn’t given us a date for the official debut of the Scenic E-Tech, but judging from other models, it will be predated by a lengthy teaser campaign.
