Not only can you count on the best automotive coverage here at Carscoops but today we’re bringing you the latest in coffee table news. This BMW S85 V10 has a near-zero percent chance of failure now that it’s out of an M5 and doing duty as furniture. It also comes with extra BMW memorabilia.

We’ve seen various car-related pieces of decor here in the past. This isn’t even the very first coffee table that we’ve covered. But it’s somewhat rare to see a piece like this constructed using such a legendary engine.

The S85 V10 here is notorious both for its strengths and weaknesses. From the factory, it sat inside of the M5 super sedan and made some 500 hp (372 kW) and 380 lb-ft (520 Nm) of torque. That’s a massive engine and a ton of naturally aspirated power for a four-door car.

Of course, the S85 is also known for its incredibly problematic rod bearings. They’re so much of an issue that someone in the comments of this auction jokingly asks “Rod bearings done?” Those who buy an E60 M5 certainly need to know whether or not they’ve been replaced. Whoever picks up this coffee table doesn’t have to worry though.

Four of the pistons serve as the feet for the block while six others hold up the customized glass top. BMW roundels sit on each end of the black-painted block and another rests at the top and glimmers through the glass. A separate BMW Motorsports plaque sits at the other end of the table top.

With the table comes a bevy of BMW memorabilia including six mugs, six rubber coasters, and the book BMW M5: The Complete Story by James Taylor. The whole package in its box weighs around 200 pounds, says the seller. As of this writing, the bid is up to $850 but we suspect it’ll go for substantially more. Of the five coffee tables to sell on BringATrailer, the cheapest went for $5,000.
