BYD has announced the creation of a new sub-brand known as Fang Cheng Bao. This translates to “Formula Leopard,” and the company said it “blends the standards and rules of Formula with the agility and wild versatility of the Leopard.”
While the brand’s name might not be catchy in the West, Fang Cheng Bao will become BYD’s fifth sub-brand as it follows Denza and Yangwang as well as the Dynasty and Ocean series. The company went on to describe the brand as a “significant addition” to their portfolio and one that will “meet the increasingly personalized needs of consumers by offering a series of unique and professional-grade new energy vehicle models.”

BYD didn’t go into many specifics, but said the Fang Cheng Bao lineup will include everything from sports cars to off-road vehicles. The company also teased their first model, which is codenamed the “SF.” It’s billed as a hardcore SUV that is slated to be launched later this year.
BYD didn’t say much about the SF, but it has a boxy design and pronounced fender flares. They’re joined by angular accents, side steps, and a rear-mounted spare tire.
BYD Chairman Wang Chuanfu said, “Many people think that the global e-mobility transition is a revolution in the automobile industry, where vehicles powered by fossil fuels get replaced by electric cars. However, from BYD, we believe this is only a minor part of the whole transition, and a greater realm is unfolding.” The company added Fang Cheng Bao “serves as the prelude to the revolution” and is designed to stay ahead of trends.
