The Detroit Auto Show returns on September 13th and organizers are promising a better event with multiple debuts as well as more brands in attendance.
There’s no word on what will be unveiled, but organizers are expecting “double the number of participating brands.” That would go a long way towards making the event worth attending as last year’s show was a relative ghost town with lots of empty space as countless automakers decided not to attend. Among the no shows were Honda, Hyundai, Kia, and Nissan as well as Audi, Porsche, and Jaguar Land Rover.
Ford, GM, and Stellantis will have a big presence at this year’s show and they’ll be bringing their “full brand portfolio.” There will also be test tracks from Ford, Jeep, and Ram as well as “new experiential activations.”

Speaking of which, there will be an all-new Powering Michigan EV Experience. As the name suggests, it will enable visitors to experience a wide range of electric vehicles and take a ride in them on a “serpentine track that includes an acceleration lane stretching more than 300 feet (91 meters).” There will also be educational experiences designed to teach people about charging electric vehicles.
Additional brands will offer “hands-on experiences” in electric and autonomous vehicles outside, while the show will once again host a technology showcase. The latter aims to have 150 startups, 50+ technology displays, and more than ten universities with a presence.
The show kicks off with a media day, but will be open to the public between September 16th and 24th. Tickets go on sale in July, although pricing hasn’t been announced at this point.
