A day ahead of its official unveiling, a series of teasers for the new high-performance version of the SF90 has dropped, but not all of them are from Ferrari. Sources notwithstanding, the images all show a series of aerodynamic modifications that are proving to be controversial among observers.
First, we’ll start with the official teaser images shared by Maranello, since we can guarantee that they’re authentic. These show closeups of different elements on the as-yet-unnamed special edition SF90, which is heavily rumored that will adopt the “LM” moniker.
The car in the photos is painted gray and comes with flashy orange accents on the rear wing’s end plates and two vents located somewhere on the car (which we will later learn is on the hood). Finally, a butterfly valve within the exhaust tubing shows glowing orange metal, hinting at the car’s high power level.

That’s all well and good, but the really juicy stuff came thanks to social media. There, a range of accounts has been sharing two photos of two cars at a (presumably) private event hosted by the brand. One appears to be a hardtop, while the other is clearly a Spider.
As with the teasers, a big permanent wing and two vents on the hood can be seen. In addition, there’s a clearly quite aggressive aero package, and the front splitter is exaggerated. A tear rolling down from the front headlight suggests that air will be funneled towards the brakes, and out through vents on the front and rear wheel arches. However, so far, the main effect of these complications has been to garner comparisons to aftermarket companies known for their garish body kits, like Mansory.
Out in the back, the big rear wing features a secondary color on the end plates, which is also found on the wheels, again like the official Ferrari teaser. The rear end has been stripped of bodywork, and the taillights have been replaced by a new thin LED strip, making it look a little more like the ones found on the Le Mans-winning Ferrari 499P.
The 499P race car is expected to serve as further inspiration for this very special SF90, as rumors suggest that it will be called the SF90 LM. Diving further into the speculation, in addition to all the aero modifications, Ferrari will be giving this car an extra 44 hp (33 kW/45 PS), to give it a total system output of 1,030 hp (768 kW/1044 PS), per The Supercar Blog.
Fortunately, we won’t have to wait long before we find out exactly what Ferrari is planning with this special edition SF90. The automaker intends to fully unveil the new model tomorrow, Thursday, June 29. Check back in with us then for a full rundown of everything you need to know.
