Lincoln is recalling just over 350 Nautilus SUVs over malfunctioning shock absorbers. When these shocks over-extend they can damage multiple components including the speed sensor, ABS sensor, and brake lines. At this point, the automaker is unaware of any injuries or accidents associated with the problem.

Back in early March of this year, Ford says that its Oakville Assembly Complex noticed an over-extended condition on some rear shocks. It measured the Continuous Controlled Damping shocks and found them to be over-extending up to 27mm. The very next day, it was determined that these rear shocks didn’t go through the same quality control test that the front ones did.

Another day passed and Ford went ahead and issued a stop ship for any new Nautilus with CCD shocks and began a full investigation. Of the 90 vehicles it tested, 72 right rear shocks and 21 left rear shocks were identified with this problem. It’s further found that vehicles made between February 14th, 2023, and March 10th, 2023 might have the problem. In total, 366 vehicles are included in the recall.

There are a number of potential clues that could alert owners to the problem. If they see an ABS or ESC light come on the dash it might be this over-traveling shock. If there’s an unusual noise or vibration, especially in the rear end of the SUV, it could also be an indication that this condition is the problem.

Dealers will inspect the shocks and associated components to assess them for damage or other issues as part of the recall. Should the technician determine that the shock or shocks are faulty, Lincoln will replace them and repair any damage free of charge.

Those concerned about whether or not they have a Nautilus with this condition can contact their local dealer. They can also search using their VIN number on NHTSA.gov or contact the NHTSA directly at 1-800-424-9153.
