If you had Porsche Macan EV-powered boat on your Friday night bingo card, pat yourself on the back as the automaker has announced an unexpected collaboration with the Frauscher Shipyard.
The partnership will spawn a 28.4 foot (8.67 meter) long daycruiser known as the Frauscher x Porsche 850 Fantom Air. It’s based on the 858 Fantom Air and the companies said the hull will carryover “practically unchanged.”
The big news is that the boat will share powertrain technology with the upcoming Macan EV. The automaker didn’t go into many specifics, but said they “optimized and further developed its drive technology … for use on the water.”

The boat will have a roughly 100 kWh lithium-ion battery pack and a “permanently excited synchronous electric motor of the latest generation.” Buyers will also find 800-volt technology from Porsche, which enables it to be quickly recharged at DC fast-charging stations. If you live on a lake and have a dock with AC power, you’ll be all set but the boat won’t recharge nearly as fast.
Jörg Kerner, Vice President of the Macan product line, said the “eFantom offers the E-Performance typical of Porsche with excellent driving properties.” He added the “powerful electric motors of the latest generation and the state-of-the-art battery and charge management also work so well on the water is testament to the excellence of our modular Premium Platform Electric.”
The collaboration didn’t end with the powertrain as Studio F.A. Porsche worked to incorporate the company’s design signature. Details are limited, but the helmstand was the key focus and we’ll see their influence in the steering wheel, console, displays, and upholstery.
The eFantom will be able to accommodate up to nine passengers and there will be a rear lounge area with two sun pads. At the opposite end, there’s two L-shaped seating areas. Other highlights include two bimini tops, a premium sound system, a refrigerator, and an electric winch for the stainless steel anchor.
The companies are planning an “exclusive first edition,” which is limited to 25 units that are slated for delivery next year. We’ll apparently learn more in October, but Stefan Frauscher said “Our boat is perfect as a daycruiser for a relaxed swimming trip, for example, or as a tender for a super yacht to make an excursion to a coastal town.”
While the collaboration is somewhat unexpected, there could be more in the future as Porsche said they’re “investigating further applications for its powertrain in other boat sizes.”
The Macan EV will ride on the PPE platform that was developed with Audi. The company has previously said the model will have up to around 603 hp (450 kW / 612 PS) and be able to go from a 5-80% charge in less than 25 minutes.
