The current Jeep Grand Cherokee is a very good SUV but for those that prefer something a little old school, it probably doesn’t tick all that many boxes. This particular Cherokee S built in 1977 and recently overhauled by Vigilante is different.
In an effort to breathe new life into this Jeep, Vigilante has outfitted it with a plethora of modern parts that will transform the way it drives without negatively impacting the timeless design. Work started with the fitment of a new 392 HEMI V8 that churns out an impressive 485 hp and has been coupled to a Bowler Performance 4L80E automatic transmission.
No good restomod build like this starts and ends with the fitment of a powerful new engine so Vigilante also fitted a Dana 44 front axle and a Dana 60 axle. The SUV is also rocking a set of modern-day brakes courtesy of Baer and also sits on Eibach springs and adjustable Fox Racing shock absorbers. Given that this Cherokee S once had leaf springs, the new suspension system should completely transform its ride.
The final important mechanical change made by Vigilante is a new Advanced Adapter Atlas II transfer case. Custom 17×9-inch wheels made from billet aluminum have also been fitted.

Adorning the exterior of the car is a lovely shade of Midnight Blue and unlike many other Cherokee S models from this era, the SUV doesn’t have wood paneling along the sides and instead has a lovely Glacier White stripe that gives it a sophisticated and high-end feel.
The alterations continue into the cabin of the Jeep where Vigilante has developed a Slate Gray cabin complete with an embossed floral design on the seats and door panels. The owner of this Cherokee S didn’t want the interior outfitted with a host of modern electronics but it does include new digital gauges.
