If there’s one thing that’s guaranteed to make EV drivers mad, it’s ICEing. That’s the name give to the act of drivers with internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles parking in bays designated for electric vehicles, thereby blocking access to a charging point.

Some drivers of gas cars no doubt do this without realizing, but others leave their cars in the bays out of spite, like they’re pulling off some hilarious frat-house joke, though they probably wouldn’t think it so funny if they pulled into the only gas station in town to find every single pump blocked by a fleet of EVs, and with no owners in sight.

ICEing helps reinforce an us-and-them mentality between drivers of EVs and combustion cars, and is incredibly frustrating for EV drivers. But probably not as frustrating as arriving at a charging bay to find it’s being ICEd by an EV.

Tesla Model S Spotted ICEing Its Own Charger

That’s the situation one we see in this image posted to reddit. The picture shows a Tesla Model S parked at a golf club in an EV bay equipped with a Level 2 charger. Nothing wrong with that, you might think, except that the Model S isn’t actually plugged into the charger and there is no one in the car.

And just to rub salt in the wound of any other Tesla driver wanting to charge, we can see that the selfish Model S driver could have parked in the adjacent bay where the charger is out of service. Obviously we don’t know the full story – the driver might have had a genuine reason to be parked there and not be charging, and the adjacent bay might have been busy when he arrived.

And is this EV driver really the only bad apple? Many EV drivers are guilty of staying too long at charging points, though because their car is plugged in, other drivers might not realize that the owner is unfairly hogging a charge bay. Some networks, including Tesla, charge idle fees when an EV has completed charging and is left plugged in at a busy charging station.
