The BMW M2 has never been a car that’s been crying out for more power. When introduced back in 2016, it had a more than adequate 365 hp and 343 lb-ft (465 Nm), plenty for a rear-wheel drive car of its size. However, as production of the first-gen M2 developed, the 405 hp Competition model was launched and then, power was lifted further to 444 hp with the M2 CS.
Fast forward to late 2022 and the second-generation M2 was presented, rocking BMW’s 3.0-liter S58 twin-turbocharged inline-six with 453 hp and 406 lb-ft (550 Nm). While this model has only been on the market for a couple of months, a new report asserts that BMW is planning yet another power increase for the car.

Information uncovered by the sleuths over at Bimmer Post reveals that in August 2024, BMW will launch a more powerful version of the M2 with a cool 474 hp. This M2 will reportedly hit the market for the 2025 model year but will not be a Competition or CS variant. Indeed, it will simply receive an additional 21 hp for the next model year, a pleasant surprise for enthusiasts but perhaps a little upsetting for those who just splashed out for a 2024 model.
The same report adds that the M2 will also receive some minor cosmetic tweaks for 2025, including the availability of new wheel designs and the addition of at least one new color, known as Skyscraper Gray.
It is not yet clear when BMW intends on launching Competition and CS versions of the second-generation M2 but it’s safe to assume they will hit the market at some stage. BMW Blog asserts the CS could have upwards of 522 hp while also being lighter.
BMW isn’t just planning to give the M2 some added power but it’s thought that an xDrive version could also be on the cards. We won’t see an all-wheel-drive version of the M2 hitting the market before 2026 though.
