Mustang drivers get a lot of flack, but they can breathe a sigh of relief as the pony car didn’t make the list of vehicles most likely to be involved in an at-fault collision.
As part of a new study, Insurify examined more than 4.6 million car insurance applications and looked at the make and model driven by applicants as well as any accidents they may have caused in the past seven years. They then did their magic to find the proportion of drivers with at least one at-fault accident on their record.

The second place car is a bit of a surprise as it’s the Scion iA, which itself was a rebadged Mazda2. While the model only stuck around for one year before being renamed the Toyota Yaris iA, it apparently made an impression as 11.5% of drivers have been involved in an at-fault collision in the past seven years. That probably shouldn’t be too surprising as the brand and its products were aimed at first-time car buyers.
The bronze medal went to the Chevrolet Volt as 11.0% of owners were accident prone. That’s another surprise as the Volt wasn’t particularly fast or sporty as it focused on efficiency.
Rounding out the top five spots were the Hyundai Veloster N and Toyota GR86. The former was a hot hatch, while the latter is an affordable coupe with a phenomenal driving experience.
