The Chevrolet Traverse might fly under the radar, but it’s one of the more popular three-row crossovers on the market. That trend should continue as the company has pulled the wraps off the redesigned model, which features a much-improved cabin and an all-new engine.
Starting outside, the 2024 Traverse looks to the Silverado and Suburban for inspiration as it adopts a larger and more muscular grille. It’s flanked by split lighting units, which have become something of a hallmark on modern Chevys.
The updated design continues further back with streamlined bodywork and a far more adventurous C-pillar. The latter is bound to draw attention, although the lower beltline is also notable as is the sporty exhaust system.
All-New Z71 Trim Is Ready For Adventure
Chevrolet said the model was designed to have a “rugged, ready-for-anything presence” and that’s especially true of the all-new Z71 trim. It immediately stands out thanks to a rugged front fascia that was purposely designed to offer an improved approach angle. The crossover also has an aluminum skid plate, red tow hooks, and exclusive 18-inch wheels wrapped in meaty all-terrain tires.
Those aren’t the only upgrades as the Traverse Z71 has a wider track and an extra inch or so of ground clearance. Buyers will also find an exclusive twin-clutch all-wheel drive system and a retuned suspension with unique dampers. Other highlights include Hill Descent Control and a special Terrain Mode. Rounding out the highlights are Evotex seats and a standard trailering package.
Drivers looking for a sportier appearance can opt for the RS trim, which has a sport-tuned suspension and 22-inch aluminum wheels with a high-gloss black finish. The dark theme is also echoed on the grille, roof rails, and moldings.
The sporty styling continues in the cabin with a flat-bottom steering wheel and contrasting red accents. Buyers will also find additional equipment including leather upholstery and power-folding second-row seats, which help to improve access to the third-row.
Chevrolet will also offer Midnight and Sport Edition packages on the Traverse LS and LT. Certain trims can also be equipped with a new dual-pane panoramic sunroof and an AutoSense liftgate.

Chevrolet interiors have come a long way and that trend continues in the Traverse as the crossover features an open and airy design with higher quality materials.
Technology takes center stage as drivers will find themselves sitting behind a larger 11-inch digital instrument cluster. It’s joined by a massive 17.7-inch infotainment system, which is a whopping 10.7 inches larger than the previously standard display.
Putting screens aside, the 2024 Traverse features a revamp center console as the shifter has been moved to the steering column. It’s joined by a revised center stack and new switchgear.
Customers can choose between seven- and eight-seat configurations, although second-row captain’s chairs come standard on most trims. When space is more important than people, owners will find 97.6 cubic feet (2,764 liters) of cargo room. That’s slightly more than in the all-new Toyota Grand Highlander.
Chevrolet didn’t release many equipment details, but the Traverse will be offered with an assortment of options including a heated steering wheel and heated first- and second-row seats. The crossover can also be equipped with a power-folding third-row, which is something that isn’t even offered on the Grand Highlander.
An All-New Engine With More Power And Less Cylinders

Under the hood, the 3.6-liter V6 has been replaced by an all-new turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder. Officials didn’t say much about it, but the engine produces an estimated 315 hp (235 kW / 319 PS) and 317 lb-ft (429 Nm) of torque.
Those are some impressive numbers and they easily beat the old V6, which packed 310 hp (231 kW / 314 PS) and 266 lb-ft (360 Nm) of torque. The increase in torque is particularly notable and the crossover is more powerful than the Kia Telluride and Honda Pilot.
The engine is connected to an eight-speed automatic transmission, which can be paired to an optional all-wheel drive system. There’s no word on fuel economy ratings, but the crossover can tow up to 5,000 lbs (2,268 kg).
Super Cruise Is Now An Option

The 2024 Traverse comes standard with a host of driver assistance systems including Automatic Emergency Braking, Forward Collision Alert, and Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning. They’re joined by IntelliBeam High Beam Assist, a Following Distance Indicator, and Front Pedestrian and Bicyclist Braking.
The model also sports an updated Buckle to Drive feature, which requires the driver and front seat passenger to be buckled up before driving. The electronic nanny is joined by a new Rear Seat Belt Reminder, which alerts the driver if second- or third-row passengers take off their seat belt.
Besides the standard safety features, the 2024 Traverse is notable for offering Super Cruise for the first time. Other options include Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Change Alert with Side Blind Zone Alert, and Blind Zone Steering Assist. Customers can also get Rear Park Assist, Reverse Automatic Braking, and Rear Pedestrian Alert. The model also offers Rear Cross Traffic Braking, Intersection Automatic Emergency Braking, Traffic Sign Recognition, and an HD Surround Vision system.

The 2024 Chevrolet Traverse will be launched early next year and be built at Michigan’s Lansing Delta Township Assembly. There’s no word on pricing at this point, but the current model begins at $34,520 before a $1,395 destination charge.
