This story includes renderings of the sixth-gen Toyota 4Runner that are not related to or endorsed by Toyota
Believe it or not, the current fifth generation of the Toyota 4Runner has been around largely unchanged since 2009, making a clean-sheet design nothing less than a necessity. Thankfully, the latest insider information about the upcoming sixth-gen model suggests it will debut in mid-2024 just in time for the 2025 MY, sharing its ladder-frame underpinnings and four-cylinder powertrain options with the Tacoma.
The design of the 2025 Toyota 4Runner will reportedly be evolutionary, infused with features from the new Tacoma. As highlighted by the renderings by a member of the 4Runner6G forums who claims to have created them with insider input, the Tacoma-inspired styling cues could include a large grille, vertical bumper intakes connected with the headlights, angular surfacing, boxy wheel arches, and muscular fenders.
The signature C-pillar is said to become more upright compared to the current model, providing easier access to the rear seats. Thankfully, the TRD Pro trim is expected to remain available in the new generation.

The 2025 Toyota 4Runner will most likely be built on the TNGA-F architecture (ladder-frame chassis), which is also utilized in the Tacoma, Sequoia, as well as in the upcoming 2024 Land Cruiser and its Lexus GX counterpart. According to information from a “credible insider source” reported by 4Runner6G Forum, there have been details leaked regarding the powertrain options.
The V6 is claimed to be dropped from the lineup, with the 4Runner being exclusively available with the Tacoma’s turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine in different versions. In the pickup, the four-pot produces 228 hp (170 kW / 231 PS) in entry-level form, 270 hp (201 kW / 274 PS) or 278 hp (207 kW / 282 PS) in mid-spec form, or up to 326 hp (243 kW / 331 PS) in the flagship i-Force Max hybrid with the help of electrification.
Production of the 2025 Toyota 4Runner will reportedly commence in July 2024, meaning that the reveal will likely occur before that date. Hopefully, our spy photographers will spot camouflaged prototypes of the SUV during development testing, giving us a better idea of its styling and features.
