According to a report out of Germany, Audi is looking to use an electric vehicle platform sourced from a Chinese automaker.
That would be a surprising move, but Automobilwoche suggests the company wants to speed up development of electric vehicles. The publication goes on to say Volkswagen CEO Oliver Blume has reportedly signed off on the idea and it could be presented to the Supervisory Board this week.
Audi denied the move when asked by the publication, but Automobilwoche doubled down on their story and said sources have told them the company is already having talks with other automakers.

Automotive News Europe suggested the company could be eyeing a platform from BYD or BAIC. That remains to be seen, but the publications suggested the move is related to product development woes including issues with the SSP platform. However, Blume recently suggested the architecture will arrive in 2026 rather than late this decade.
There are more questions than answers at this point and it’s not entirely clear Audi is indeed talking to rivals. However, if they are, it’s possible – if not likely – that any vehicle based on a Chinese-sourced platform could be limited to the country. That’s just a guess, but the company has offered Chinese-specific models in the past including the Q6 which debuted last year.
