From the moment that BMW started to tease the M3 Touring, we suspected that it was going to be very popular and it has proven to be just that. In fact, BMW M boss Frank van Meel has confirmed that the company has been forced to increase production to keep up with demand for the Audi RS4 Avant and Mercedes-AMG C 63 Estate rival.
BMW M’s boss was recently interviewed by Bimmer Today and while speaking with the publication, he revealed that the carmaker was surprised by the strong demand for the M3 Touring after its unveiling at last year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed. This strong demand has prompted BMW to increase capacity at its Munich plant and even still, those who place an order will likely have to wait quite a while before taking delivery.

A report from earlier this year claimed that given how strong demand for the M3 Touring was, BMW M has also been considering a lighter and more powerful CS version of the car. While it isn’t known exactly what changes could be made to this car, it’s reasonable to assume that it would benefit from a host of new parts to improve the aerodynamics and could use some parts from the M Performance Parts catalog. Changes would also be made to the car’s 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged six-cylinder, likely to bring it in line with the M3 CS sedan that delivers 543 hp and 479 lb-ft (649 Nm) of torque.
While the idea of an M3 CS Touring is tantalizing, BMW Blog says it has not yet been given the green light for production and that its future depends on whether or not BMW can find the needed capacity at its Munich plant to make it happen.
