It turns out that the mysterious performance concept that was recently announced by MG for this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed is an electric hyper hatch with extreme aero components inspired by the Metro 6R4 Group B rally car.
The MG EX4 appeared in a series of teasers, revealing most of its rally-infused exterior. The concept is clearly based on the MG4 production EV hatchback but features a unique bodykit. This includes wider front and rear fenders, a huge splitter, and a massive rear wing mounted on the sides.

Besides the extensive aerodynamic package which was penned by the MG styling team in London, another nod to the short-lived Group B rally car is the alloy wheel covers and the distinct livery that celebrates the 40th anniversary of its Metro 6R4 ancestor. We can also see a green-painted roll cage and two racing buckets in the presumably stripped-out interior.
The EX4 comes fitted with the dual electric motor powertrain of the MG4 XPower which also debuts at Goodwood. We don’t know if the concept features any performance modifications, but the production version of the hot hatch produces a combined 429 hp (320 kW / 435 PS) and 600 Nm (443 lb-ft) of torque, allowing a 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 3.8 seconds. For comparison, the racing version of the Metro 6R4 produced 410 hp (306 kW / 416 PS) from its bespoke mid-mounted 3.0-liter V6.
The MG EX4 Concept will be displayed at the First Glance paddock of the Goodwood Festival of Speed starting on July 13th. The concept will most likely remain a one-off, as the rally-car styling is not suitable for a production model.
